ERTL (#21331P) 1/32 Scale
Shell #1 (2003) - Horses and Tanker Wagon (bank) SPECIAL EDITION Comes with "Black Chrome" tank and wagon body This Diecast Metal (even the horses are diecast) Bank with Lock and Key is the FIRST in a NEW SERIES for Shell. With the potential to be as popular as the Texaco series, you will want to be sure to get in on this #1 issue before it is too late! This is a Limited Edition with a serial numbered chassis and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This nostalgic 1/32 scale model features a diecast metal wagon that is held by plastic rotating chassis with free-rolling plastic spoke wheels. Out front is a diecast two-horse team complete with harness. This model of a 1912 tanker commemorates the birth year of The American Gasoline Company - the First Shell Company in the U.S. - which opened a bulk distribution depot in Seattle, WA. Seattle was a prime location as it had a railroad siding and close proximity to Lake Union for bringing supplies in by barge. As the automotive industry was still in its infancy, the company utilized horse-drawn tank wagons to deliver products like "Shell Motor Spirit" gasoline and other products to its growing customer base. The term "tank wagon price" refers to the price shell dealers pay to have gasoline delivered to their service stations; this is a term that originated in this era and still persists today.
